Lead, Systems Reliability

Building a world where delivery is free.

ABOUT AIRBOUND:

Our mission is to make a world where everyone has access to delivery. Where goods move as freely as information moves today.

This is possible. Today the cost of moving on a scooter is 2 rs/km. That’s the cost of moving a 150kg mass from point A to B. We’re bringing that mass down to less than 5kgs, and thus, bringing the cost down to 10 paise/km. This is how we make 1 rupee deliveries a reality. This is how we create a world where we’re doing billions of deliveries per day.

The tech is not there. The current cost of drone delivery is 100rs/km. We need to completely redefine the way things are done here. We’re building the world’s most efficient aircraft from the ground-up, and scaling that up to beyond anything the aerospace sector has ever seen. This cannot be an iterative process. We have to tear down all conventions and build everything up from scratch.

To do this, we need nothing less than the best engineers. The ones who care about building something fundamentally different, who are deeply curious about understanding the fundamentals of everything they’re working on, who are dreamers that believe in the impossible.

ROLE SUMMARY:

At Airbound, reliability is not optional – every flight must perform exactly as expected, under every condition. As Lead for Systems Reliability, you will:

  • Own the reliability and durability roadmap across aircraft systems — from structures and composites to electronics and control.
  • Design and execute comprehensive lifecycle, stress, and environmental tests that simulate extreme real-world conditions (vibration, heat, cold, humidity, long-duration use).
  • Build test rigs, automation setups, and data pipelines to accelerate failure detection and root-cause analysis.
  • Develop reliability metrics, dashboards, and standards that guide design teams from prototype to production.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure reliability insights flow back into design, materials, and processes.
  • Drive failure investigations with a rigorous, systems-level mindset, ensuring no weak link escapes attention.
  • Mentor and lead a team of reliability engineers, building a culture of thoroughness, discipline, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Bring prior experience in reliability engineering for aerospace, automotive, or complex hardware systems, with a track record of having validated and shipped real-world products.

PREFERRED SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in reliability engineering for aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other complex hardware systems.
  • Proven track record of designing and executing lifecycle, durability, and environmental tests.
  • Strong understanding of reliability methodologies such as FMEA, FTA, and reliability prediction models.
  • Hands-on experience with HALT, HASS, vibration, and thermal cycling test methods.
  • Proficiency in building custom test rigs, automation setups, and data pipelines for accelerated validation.
  • Strong analytical background with experience in statistical reliability tools and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with aerospace reliability and safety standards (DO-160, ARP4761, MIL-STD).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and drive system-level reliability improvements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical, first-principles approach
