Building a world where delivery is free.
ABOUT AIRBOUND:
Our mission is to make a world where everyone has access to delivery. Where goods move as freely as information moves today.
This is possible. Today the cost of moving on a scooter is 2 rs/km. That’s the cost of moving a 150kg mass from point A to B. We’re bringing that mass down to less than 5kgs, and thus, bringing the cost down to 10 paise/km. This is how we make 1 rupee deliveries a reality. This is how we create a world where we’re doing billions of deliveries per day.
The tech is not there. The current cost of drone delivery is 100rs/km. We need to completely redefine the way things are done here. We’re building the world’s most efficient aircraft from the ground-up, and scaling that up to beyond anything the aerospace sector has ever seen. This cannot be an iterative process. We have to tear down all conventions and build everything up from scratch.
To do this, we need nothing less than the best engineers. The ones who care about building something fundamentally different, who are deeply curious about understanding the fundamentals of everything they’re working on, who are dreamers that believe in the impossible.
ROLE SUMMARY:
At Airbound, every gram and every process matters – our aircraft must be designed not just to fly, but to be built at a massive scale. As a DFM Engineer, you will:
- Translate prototype designs into manufacturable parts and assemblies, without compromising on performance or weight.
- Develop and implement design-for-manufacturing guidelines for composites, precision machining, electronics, and assembly.
- Use CAD and simulation tools to optimize parts for scalability, tolerances, and ease of production.
- Collaborate with R&D, supply chain, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless transition from lab builds to high-volume production.
- Build robust documentation and process standards that enable consistent, repeatable builds at scale.
- Work hands-on with prototypes and production trials to validate manufacturability.
- Bring prior experience in scaling hardware from prototype to production, with a track record of getting real parts made.
PREFERRED SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in design-for-manufacturing, production engineering, or scaling hardware products
- Strong proficiency in CAD/CAE tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar).Solid understanding of manufacturing processes — composites, machining, sheet metal, and electronics assembly.
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerancing, and precision manufacturing principles.
- Experience working with suppliers and vendors to turn designs into real parts at scale.
- Strong analytical skills with hands-on problem-solving in prototyping and production environments.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills to drive cross-functional collaboration.
