Avionics Engineer

Website Alteon Energy

Building airplanes that fly for ~417 days.

About Alteon

The Wright Brothers gave humanity flight, Alteon exists to give humanity (almost) perpetual
flight. Our mission is to build the world’s highest endurance aircrafts – ones that can fly for
up to ~417 days at a time.

We are a small, young team driven by pushing the limits of what’s possible – we don’t like
settling for good enough. We are here to build the best technology possible, the best
airplane possible, to do the best engineering possible. Limited only by the laws of physics.

About the role

As Avionics Engineer (intern) at Alteon, you will work alongside the flight testing team to
debug avionics problems and develop new capabilities across multiple subsystems including
power distribution, on-board sensors, and actuators. You should love to solve difficult
problems, think from first principles and thrive in fast moving environments where there is no
playbook.

What you’ll do

– Work with the flight testing team to debug avionics issues that show up on the
aircraft.
– Design and prototype custom PCBs for actuator control — from schematic to layout
to a working board on the bench.
– Bench-test and validate new boards before they go on the aircraft.
– Build test setups and rigs to characterise components and stress-test your designs.
Skills & competencies
– You have designed your own PCBs end-to-end.
– You are comfortable with the fundamentals of power electronics.
– You can write embedded firmware for your boards.
– You have experience working with, setting up and debugging flight controllers.
– Bonus: if you have worked with motor control or BLDC drivers before.
